Thematic projects

Satellite image interpretation consists of two stages: preliminary and basic. At the preliminary stage the pre-processing of remote sensing data are carried out. This stage includes image synthesis, histogram adjustment, mosaic creation and image coordinate system conversion. The basic stage is attempting to classify features in an image uses the elements of visual interpretation to identify various features or land cover classes of interest. Digital image classification uses the spectral information represented by the digital numbers in spectral bands.

Thematic mapping aims to identify spatial distribution patterns of specific attribute (thematic) features. A thematic map is defined as a map that is specifically designed to show a particular theme. A cartographer can utilize the points, lines and polygons for map features. In map compilation, symbolization (graphic variables) is used to represent features on the earth surface. The legend explains the meaning of all the symbols on a map hence making it easy to interpret and analysis a map.
Satellite image interpretation results (vector layers and thematic maps) can be used as a source of additional information about the studying objects derived in geoinformation systems. Geoinformation systems help users to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of spatial data using methods of geospatial analysis. Geospatial analysis is an approach applying statistical analysis and other informational techniques to geospatial data. It includes geometrical processing, map algebra, surface analysis, a network and location analysis, a model building.
