Satellite image interpretation consists of two stages: preliminary and basic. At the preliminary stage the pre-processing of remote sensing data are carried out. This stage includes image synthesis, histogram adjustment, mosaic creation and image coordinate system conversion. The basic stage is attempting to classify features in an image uses the elements of visual interpretation to identify various features or land cover classes of interest. Digital image classification uses the spectral information represented by the digital numbers in spectral bands.
During the work over every project the remote sensing data that are the most appropriate for the interpretation of the object, responded to the scope of the research, selective and flexibly adaptive to local conditions and client’s requirements to the algorithms of satellite imagery processing, are selected, the additional sources of information which increase the accuracy of the results and work efficiency are defined. Field work aimed at collecting reference and proved information is carried out.
Working over every project SOVZOND specialists use only images which are the most appropriate for the purpose of target objects identification. SOVZOND experts always try to find the best methods of image interpretation taking into account customers’ requirements and local conditions of territory. If it is needed the specialists use auxiliary data and conduct field experiments for resulting map verification. All of this allows us to gain accurate imagery interpretation results and improve efficiency of the work.
